SENIORS' PROGRAMS

bETTER AT HOME 

United Way’s Better at Home program helps BC’s older adults continue living independently in their own homes by providing simple, non-medical home support services.

​

  • Farmers' Market Vouchers – Spring & Summer​

    • Seniors who are living with a low income, are able to receive coupons to use at the Kamloops Farmers Market. Space is limited.

    • In partnership with BC Farmer’s Market Coupon Program, eligible seniors are able to receive coupons to use at the Kamloops Farmers Market.  The program runs for 16 week from June to September.

  • Food Bank Hamper Deliveries

    • Seniors living with accessibility barriers can have hampers delivered by volunteers on a monthly basis.  Food hampers are supplied by the Kamloops Food Bank and consist of non-perishable items.​

  • Good Morning Calls

    • Seniors are matched with volunteers who provide friendly calls with the intention to provide a check in and create social interaction.​​​​​​​​

​​

  • Grocery Shopping – Phone In

    • Seniors are offered assistance in shopping both over the phone and in person on Thursdays through Safeway on the North Shore. Seniors are required to purchase groceries.​​

​

  • Seniors Socials

    • A drop in gathering for older adults built on social interactions, games and advocacy support.

    • Fridays, 9 - 12 pm in Kamloops

  • Light Yard Work – Spring & Summer

  • Light Housekeeping

Seniors Community Connector

Seniors Socials

A drop in gathering for older adults built on social interactions, games and advocacy support.  Activities can include community presentations, food skills demonstration and much more. Fridays, 9-12 pm.

Offered in partnership with United Way BC, the Social Prescribing program aims to help seniors improve their health and well-being by connecting individuals to meaningful activities and resources. Through the Community Connector, participants can receive help in accessing information and community services, or participants can choose to co-produce a comprehensive plan involving multiple areas of support with follow-up from the Community Connector. Some areas of service can include, but are not limited to; nutritional supports, physical activities, social, volunteer or creative opportunities and caregiver supports.

This program is for older adults (65+) living in Kamloops who are experiencing:

  • social isolation or loneliness

  • major life events such as loss of a spouse

  • physical inactivity

  • chronic health ailments

  • caregiver fatigue

  • poor nutrition and/or food security concerns

  • the desire or need to connect with community resources or services

  • wanting to make some changes with current life situation but just don’t know where to start

Meals on Wheels

Frozen, low-cost meals are delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays to seniors who place their own orders. Meals range from $6-$10.  The program is delivered in partnership with the Centre for Seniors Information.

  • Meals On Wheels Program Details:

  • The standard Meals On Wheels dishes range in cost from $6-$10 per meal.

  • Individuals must be at home to receive the meals delivered by volunteers.

  • Meals on Wheels Kamloops is proudly delivered in partnership with the Centre for Seniors Information.
